שאלות עקיפות (Indirect questions)

שאלה עקיפה היא שאלה בתוך משפט אחר (Do you know…?, Could you tell me…?, I wonder…). השאלה הפנימית משתמשת בסדר מילים של משפט רגיל: question word + subject + verb, ו-do / does / did נעלמים.

💡כאשר does / did נעלמים, הזמן עובר לפועל הראשי: What time does it open? → … what time it opens. Why did she leave? → … why she left.

1. לשאול בנימוס, במיוחד זרים, לקוחות או הבוס — עדין יותר משאלה ישירה

• Excuse me, do you know where the nearest ATM is?

  סליחה, אתה יודע איפה נמצא הכספומט הקרוב?

• Could you tell me how far it is to the airport?

  אתה יכול להגיד לי כמה רחוק זה לשדה התעופה?

• Would you mind telling me what you think of the plan?

  האם תסכים לספר לי מה דעתך על התכנית?

2. לומר על מה מתלבטים או לא יודעים — אלו משפטי חיווי, לכן מסתיימים בנקודה

• I wonder what she wants for her birthday.

  אני תוהה מה היא רוצה ליום ההולדת שלה.

• I have no idea where he went last night.

  אין לי מושג לאן הוא הלך אתמול בלילה.

• I can't remember where I parked the car.

  אני לא זוכר איפה חניתי את הרכב.

• פתיחים שהם שאלות (?): Do you know…? / Could you tell me…? / Can you tell me…? / Do you have any idea…? / Would you mind telling me…? / Can you remember…?
• פתיחים שהם חיווי (.): I wonder… / I don't know… / I'm not sure… / I have no idea… / I'd like to know… / I can't remember…
• סימן הפיסוק הסופי נקבע לפי המשפט החיצוני, לא לפי השאלה הפנימית.

בשאלת כן/לא אין מילת שאלה, לכן מוסיפים if או whether. המשמעות זהה; whether מעט יותר רשמי ולעיתים בא עם or not.

• Do you know if the restaurant is open today?

  אתה יודע אם המסעדה פתוחה היום?

• I'm not sure whether it will rain or not.

  אני לא בטוח אם ירד גשם או לא.

• It depends on whether we have enough time.

  זה תלוי אם יש לנו מספיק זמן.

• I can't decide whether to buy it.

  אני לא מצליח להחליט אם לקנות את זה.

אם who / what / which הן הנושא, כבר בשאלה הישירה יש סדר של משפט רגיל (ללא do/did), לכן לא משתנה כלום בשאלה העקיפה. ראו גם את השיעור “שאלות נושא ומושא”.

• Who broke the window? → Do you know who broke the window?

  מי שבר את החלון? → אתה יודע מי שבר את החלון?

• What happened? → Can you tell me what happened?

  מה קרה? → אתה יכול להגיד לי מה קרה?

אבל עם be + שם עצם, הפועל be עובר לסוף: Who is that man? → Do you know who that man is? (ולא: who is that man).

💡בשאלות עקיפות לא מזיזים את הזמן לאחור, כי שואלים עכשיו: Do you know where she lives? מזיזים לאחור רק בדיווח על שאלה של מישהו אחר: She asked me where I lived — ראו את השיעור “דיבור עקיף”.

  השאלה הפנימית משתמשת בסדר של משפט רגיל: נושא + פועל.

• ✗I wonder what does she want for her birthday.

  ✓I wonder what she wants for her birthday.

  להשמיט does ולהוסיף -s לפועל הראשי.

• ✗Can you tell me does this bus go to Ben Thanh Market?

  ✓Can you tell me if this bus goes to Ben Thanh Market?

  שאלת כן/לא → if/whether + משפט רגיל.

• ✗Do you know how old is your grandfather?

  ✓Do you know how old your grandfather is?

  How old + נושא + be.

• ✗Could you tell me where did you buy that jacket?

  ✓Could you tell me where you bought that jacket?

  להשמיט did ולשים את הפועל הראשי בעבר.

• ✗I don't know where she's going?

  ✓I don't know where she's going.

  המשפט החיצוני הוא חיווי, לכן מסתיים בנקודה.
