פועל + מישהו + to-infinitive

כשרוצים להגיד שמבקשים או רוצים שמישהו אחר יעשה משהו (want, ask, tell, advise…), משתמשים ב- verb + object (person) + to + verb. האדם מופיע בצורת מושא: me, you, him, her, us, them או שם פרטי.

💡לומדים לעיתים מתרגמים “I want that you come” או אומרים “I want you come”. באנגלית חייבים את שלושת החלקים: want + you + to come. האדם מופיע בצורת מושא: want him (לא he) to come.

1. רצון, ציפייה, צורך: want, would like, expect, need

• My parents want me to study medicine.

  ההורים שלי רוצים שאלמד רפואה.

• I'd like you to meet my cousin, Hoa.

  הייתי רוצה שתפגשו את בת הדודה שלי, הואה.

• The coach expects us to train every morning.

  המאמן מצפה שנתאמן כל בוקר.

2. בקשה, אמירה, תזכורת, הזמנה: ask, tell, remind, beg, invite, help

• Can you remind me to buy some eggs?

  אתם יכולים להזכיר לי לקנות ביצים?

• The teacher told us not to use dictionaries.

  המורה אמרה לנו לא להשתמש במילונים.

• Minh invited me to join his band.

  מינה הזמין אותי להצטרף ללהקה שלו.

3. ייעוץ, שכנוע, עידוד, אזהרה: advise, encourage, persuade, convince, warn, urge

• The doctor advised me to get more sleep.

  הרופא ייעץ לי לישון יותר.

• My friends persuaded me to try karaoke.

  החברים שלי שכנעו אותי לנסות קריוקי.

• They warned us not to swim after dark.

  הם הזהירו אותנו לא לשחות אחרי רדת החשכה.

4. לאפשר, להכריח, לאפשר (באופן טכני), ללמד: allow, permit, force, enable, teach, get (= persuade, לא פורמלי)

• The rain forced us to stay indoors.

  הגשם הכריח אותנו להישאר בפנים.

• This app allows you to track your spending.

  האפליקציה הזו מאפשרת לכם לעקוב אחרי ההוצאות שלכם.

• My grandpa taught me to fish.

  סבא שלי לימד אותי לדוג.

• I finally got my brother to clean his room.

  סוף סוף הצלחתי לשכנע את אחי לנקות את החדר שלו.

יש פעלים עם משמעות דומה שלא משתמשים ב-person + to + verb. יש להשתמש בתבנית אחרת. make ו-let באים עם person + base verb, בלי to — ראו את השיעור “Make / let” someone do.

עם advise, allow, permit, encourage: כשיש אדם אחרי הפועל → to + verb; כשאין אדם → -ing. עם recommend, האפשרויות הבטוחות הן -ing או משפט עם that: I recommend booking early / I recommend (that) you book early.

• I'd advise you to bring a raincoat. / I'd advise bringing a raincoat.

  הייתי ממליץ לכם להביא מעיל גשם. / הייתי ממליץ להביא מעיל גשם.

• They don't allow people to park here. / They don't allow parking here.

  הם לא מרשים לאנשים להחנות כאן. / הם לא מרשים להחנות כאן.

הסביל נפוץ מאוד: be allowed to, be asked to, be told to, be advised to, be expected to.

• You're not allowed to bring food into the cinema.

  אסור להכניס אוכל לקולנוע.

• Passengers are asked to keep their bags with them.

  מבקשים מהנוסעים לשמור את התיקים איתם.

💡זו גם התבנית לדיווח על בקשות והוראות: “Please sit down,” she said. → She asked me to sit down. “Don't be late!” → He told us not to be late. ראו גם את השיעור “Reported speech”.

• ✗I want you come early tomorrow.

  ✓I want you to come early tomorrow.

  חסר to.

• ✗My parents want that I become a doctor.

  ✓My parents want me to become a doctor.

  want לא בא עם משפט עם that.

• ✗She told me don't worry.

  ✓She told me not to worry.

  השלילה היא not to + verb.

• ✗He said me to wait outside.

  ✓He told me to wait outside.

  say לא בא עם person + to; יש להשתמש ב-tell.

• ✗The doctor suggested me to rest.

  ✓The doctor advised me to rest. / The doctor suggested (that) I rest.

  suggest לא בא עם person + to.

• ✗They don't allow to smoke here.

  ✓They don't allow smoking here. / They don't allow people to smoke here.

  allow דורש person + to + verb, או -ing.
